Holly Johnson presents
Frankie Goes to Hollywood took the music world by storm in the 1980s with their debut single Relax, which not only became a worldwide hit, but also topped the UK charts and sold over 2 million copies. However, the song was deemed so controversial that the BBC refused to broadcast it due to its perceived sexual content. Relax would remain in the charts for around 37 weeks.
The band broke through further with the release of their second single, Two Tribes, which further cemented their status as one of the most influential groups of the 1980s. Both singles were simultaneously at number 1 and 2 in the UK charts. The debut album Welcome to the Pleasuredome was released in 1984 and contained three consecutive hit singles, including The Power of Love, which stormed the charts worldwide and made the album one of the best-selling records of the 1980s.
After the band split up, Holly Johnson embarked on a successful solo career. His solo album Blast celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and spawned hits such as Love Train, Americanos, Heavens Here, and Atomic City.
“I can't believe it's been 40 years since Welcome to The Pleasuredome first exploded onto the scene,” says Holly Johnson. “It's been an incredible journey. I'm thrilled to be celebrating this milestone with a special tour for the fans.”
