About
Béjart Ballet Lausanne: Bye Bye Baby Blackbird & Dionysos (Suite)
From May 7th to May 10th 2026 at Cirque Royal in Brussels
Since its founding in 1987, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne has established a prominent place in the international dance world. Following the passing of Maurice Béjart in 2007, the company remains faithful to his artistic legacy, keeping his work alive while also providing space for new creations in the same spirit.
Maurice Béjart always aimed to open up the world of dance to a wide audience. Driven by this same goal, BBL dancers perform all over the world. The Béjart Ballet Lausanne is one of the rare ballet companies capable of filling large venues such as the NHK Hall in Tokyo, the Kremlin State Palace in Moscow, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, the Palais des Congrès in Paris, Vorst Nationaal in Brussels, and the ice rink of Malley-Lausanne.

THE PROGRAM:
- BYE BYE BABY BLACKBIRD
A poetic and introspective work by Dutch choreographer Joost Vrouenraets, which premiered in February 2022 at the Béjart Ballet Lausanne. The piece explores themes such as loss, absence, and impermanence, and is inspired by a personal letter from Elsa Van Der Heijden reflecting on the absence of a blackbird that does not return.
The choreography is accompanied by music from Johnny Cash, creating a raw and emotional atmosphere. The costumes are designed by Henri Davila.
“The shadows of silence are witnessed, the echoes of physical absence are felt. I delight in the darkness, the not-knowing, and the impermanence. I focus my attention on the core of the darkness — and in it, I see a light...” – choreographer Joost Vrouenraets
- DIONYSOS (SUITE)
The myth of Dionysos, the Greek god of ecstasy, trance, and transformation. In this choreography by Maurice Béjart, ritualistic movements and expressive dance explore the boundary between order and chaos, body and mind, individual and community. A sensory journey in which Béjart celebrates the timeless primal power of dance. In this suite version, music by Manos Hadjidakis resonates, and the costumes are created by Gianni Versace.
