Jean-Michel Jarre is undoubtedly one of the artists who shaped music history. Son of film music composer Maurice Jarre and resistance fighter France Pejot, Jean-Michel Jarre became known worldwide in 1976 with the album Oxygène, followed by the international success of Équinoxe in 1978. Soon, one of his first concerts set the tone for his spectacular shows. “From the beginning of my career, I wanted to break with the standard of traditional concert halls,” he recalls. On July 14, 1979, he performed at the Place de la Concorde in Paris on the occasion of the French National Holiday. Thanks to this iconic concert, which was broadcast live on TV, he attracted as many as 1 million spectators, capturing a spot in the Guinness World Records. Since then, the artist, has brought his music to the most legendary venues and for the biggest personalities worldwide.
In 1986, he was asked to organize the sound and light show for the 25th anniversary of NASA and the 150th anniversary of Texas. That same year, he played in his hometown of Lyon in honor of Pope John Paul II. In 1993, his fans in Belgium will no doubt remember his performance at Place Heysel, at the foot of the Atomium, which drew nearly 70,000 people. For the transition to the year 2000, he organized a mega-concert at the foot of the Cairo Pyramids in Egypt.
The following year he performed at the Acropolis in Athens. He has also played in a field full of wind turbines in Denmark, in the Forbidden City in Beijing and in the Merzouga Desert in Morocco. On Dec. 31, 2020, he gave another virtual reality concert, broadcast from Paris' Notre-Dame. On December 25, 2023, he performed at the Galerie des Glaces of the Château de Versailles on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of this historic monument.
His extraordinary concerts have made Jean-Michel Jarre a legend, and his spectacular shows, with their futuristic sound and extraordinary lighting effects, will forever be etched in the collective memory. Just last summer, fans saw the 76-year-old French electronic music pioneer at his best at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, setting the Stade de France ablaze, surrounded by 23 other big names in French electronic music including Martin Solveig, Cerrone, Kungs and Kavinsky. The performance was followed by more than one billion television viewers and was unanimously praised by critics. The concert was also released under an EP called Paris Stadium. With this concert, praised by also the new generation, the artist also added the Stade de France to the impressive list of places where he performed.
At age 76, Jean-Michel Jarre announces a new series of open-air concerts with Brussels, the capital of Europe, on his list of chosen cities.
On July 1, 2025, he will perform on the iconic Place des Palais during Brussels Palace Open Air. It promises to be an unmissable spectacle that will be both festive and spectacular!
