Urugendo Part. III: BURIJE NDAYE INO

In the third part of the “Urugendo” trilogy, entitled “Urugendo Part. 3: Burije ndaye ino”, we meet up with Nyirumuringa and her daughter Nyirantwari, as well as other members of their family. This chapter follows the first two features, “Urugendo Part. 1: Inzira ndende” and “Urugendo Part. 2: Twavamo umwe ntitwarya”, tracing the journey of Nyirumuringa, a Rwandan woman, from her flight from Igisimba “the beast” to her settlement in a new village far from home. As life goes on, the echoes of the past still resonate...

In this third part, the relationships between the characters, the challenges they face and the crucial choices they must make are explored. Nyirantwari is confronted with the question of her identity and her connection with her culture of origin. The story touches on themes such as cultural transmission, inter-community conflict and the pursuit of unity despite differences.

The title “Burije ndaye ino” means “It's getting late, I'm going to sleep here”, symbolizing the temporary acceptance of a difficult situation while hoping for better days. The characters settle into their new reality, but keep the hope of one day returning home.

This third part offers a rich and moving conclusion, deepening the themes and characters to bring this captivating trilogy to an end.
